Foundation: God's Word Shapes Our Church Leaders

We have heard the past weeks how in God’s Word, we have comfort and strength for our sufferings and even death. God now gives you and me the privilege of sharing the comfort and strength God gives in his Word with others. But, that will bring its own challenges and hardships. It isn’t always easy to share God’s Word with others. Other times, we won’t be treated well when we tell other about you. God’s Word continues to strengthen us and gives us to courage to share our Savior!

Foundation: God's Word Is Our Refuge in Death

Last week we saw that faith does not eliminate suffering from our lives. Today we see that the suffering includes even death. The Christian clings to the one who has overcome death for us even when faced with death.

Foundation: God's Word Is a Refuge from our Sufferings

We live in a time filled with identity issues. People are struggling to figure out who they are and what their place is in this world. Social media, pop self-help, and a sinful world has distorted people’s ideas of what is important and where our significance can be found. But, there is a place we can go for reliable answers. God’s word clearly and simply gives us a solid footing on who we are and comfort for our anxious times. Today, God shows us how his Word serves as a refuge for us when our life and our world seem out of control. Through his Word, our God comforts us and gives us a peace that only he gives.

Go! Tell of your Good Shepherd!

Even though most of us (all of us?) have never tended sheep, we have an understanding of the picture. A shepherd caring for, guarding, and providing for helpless and defenseless sheep. That is part of the picture before us today—our Savior, our Good Shepherd, who laid down his life for us, his sheep. God encourages us with his Word so that through us, other sheep may hear the voice of their Good Shepherd and believe. Go! Tell of your Good Shepherd!
