  1. When threatened by a large-scale attack, what would most kings do? By contrast, what did Jehoshaphat do?

  2. Take a close look at Jehoshaphat’s prayer, taking note of its various parts. Think about how you can include those parts in your prayers. (Verse 6; Verses 7-9; Verses 10,11; Verse 12)

  3. Imagine yourself as part of an army going out to face a much larger army. Imagine you are told you will not have to fight but simply to stand still and wait for some unexplained and undefined deliverance. What would go through your mind? In our age of possible nuclear attack at any time, what comfort can we take from how the Lord delivered Israel?

  3. The Lord tells us to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and know that everything else we need will be given to us. (See Matthew 6:33.) In what areas of your life might you be seeking other things first? How can you set your priorities straight?

  3. King Solomon and King Rehoboam both sinned, and their sin affected others. God wants us to confess our sins and turn away from them. This is hard enough for us to do on our own - how will you teach your children that sin affects their relationship with God and others? How will you teach them about the forgiveness that is theirs in Jesus when they do sin?

  3. Go back to the list you made of things that make it hard for you to forgive others. For each one, explain how God’s forgiveness of all your sins makes it possible for you to overcome that difficulty and forgive the person that has sinned against you.

  3. The Big Idea for the Preschool lesson is that God wants us to help our families. As you ask your children for help with various things around the house, how can you use those opportunities as times to talk about how much God has helped us by sending a Savior as the reason why we help our families?

  1. The Big Idea for this lesson is that God' takes sin seriously. Read the account of the stories in the Bible in Numbers 10-14. What were the different consequences for the Israelites sins?

  2. God had promised that he would be with the Israelites as they went into the Promised Land. Instead of trusting his promises, the Israelites ignored God’s promises and rebelled against God. What promises of God do you find hard to trust?

  3. Your children will continue to consistently sin in different ways as your raise them. THink of 2 ways that you can reinforce this lessons message that God takes sin seriously and that there maybe consequnces of sin, but the sin itself is gone thanks to Jesus. What will you say to your child?

  1. In their desire to gain wisdom, Adam and Eve lost sight of the fundamental truth about wisdom. Read Proverbs 1:7. What is real wisdom? How does this apply to your efforts to teach your child(ren) about Jesus?

  2. In her answer to God, Eve says that the serpent “deceived” her. What had the devil promised her? What did her disobedience deliver? (Read 3:5-6, 16-19) How would you apply this to your life?

  3. There were consequences to Adam and Eve’s sin, and there was a promise that the effects of the fall would one day be undone (Jesus!). We still bear the effects of the fall in our everyday life - our sinful nature, our acts of sin and disobedience, temptation, and the effects of sin and the ruination of God’s perfect world are all around us. How does God’s promise here in Genesis 3 still comfort you in your daily life? How does it encourage you as you teach your child(ren)?

  3. God provided for his people regularly in the book of Exodus: a leader, a powerful deliverance from their slavery in Egypt and again at the Red Sea, and for their physical needs in the desert. List three different ways God providence comforts and encourages you for your life today.
