LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Choose one (or more) of these activities to do with your child.

+ Follow the Shepherd

• Supplies: None
• Directions: Tell the children that you are the shepherd and they are the sheep. Wherever the shepherd goes, the sheep must follow. Begin by moving slowly around the area while the sheep follow you. Create variety by moving faster, slower, in zig zag patterns, in tight circles, etc. After a while, allow the children to take turns being the shepherd and continue the game.
• Say: Wow! You all did such a great job following the shepherd. Today’s true Bible story is about a Good Shepherd who loves His sheep so much. The sheep go where the shepherd goes and they do what the shepherd says. In just a little bit, we’re going to learn who the shepherd is.
• Question: Have you ever pet a sheep before? If you have, what was it like? If not, what do you think their wool feels like?

+ Sheep Herders

• Supplies: Cotton balls, marker, shoe box, wolf cards
• Directions: Give each child a cotton ball and a marker. (Tell the children not to remove the cap from their marker.) Next, place the shoebox on its side on the floor against a wall. Tell the children to imagine they are a good shepherd. The marker is their shepherd’s staff, the cotton ball is their sheep, and the shoebox is the sheep’s pen. Have the children place their cotton ball on the floor about 8 feet from the shoe box, then have them begin herding their sheep toward the pen using their shepherd’s staff. As the children get close to the pen, lay some wolf cards on the floor. The children must herd their sheep around the wolves. When all of the sheep are in the pen, celebrate, then play another round.
• Say: That game reminds us of today’s true Bible story. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who loves and cares for His sheep. We’re kind of like the sheep. Jesus leads us in the right direction and keeps us out of trouble.
• Question: How do you think Jesus cares for you and protects you like a Good Shepherd?

+ Shepherd's Voice (Application Activity)

• Supplies: None
• Say: In today’s Bible story, Jesus said He is like a Good Shepherd and we’re like His sheep. We belong to Jesus. But the sheep have to know the Good Shepherd’s voice. Let’s play a game that helps us learn the difference between the Good Shepherd’s voice and the Stranger’s voice.
• Directions: Tell the children to pretend like they are the sheep. Stand near a wall, then read the statements from below one at a time. If the statement is something Jesus would say, the sheep must run to the shepherd and say, “I belong to Jesus!” If the statement is something Jesus would NOT say, the sheep should run away to the opposite wall. Continue until all of the statements have been read.
• Statements:
  • You should love God with your whole heart. (Shepherd)
  • It’s okay to steal little things. (Stranger)
  • Listen to your parents and do what they say. (Shepherd)
  • If someone is in your way, you can push them. (Stranger)
  • You should treat people the same way you want to be treated. (Shepherd)
  • You should be mean to people who are mean to you. (Stranger)
  • You should love people even if they are mean to you. (Shepherd)
  • Don’t be worried about anything. God will take care of you. (Shepherd)
  • Get as much stuff as you can and don’t share with anyone. (Stranger)
  • You should love your neighbors as much as you love yourself. (Shepherd)

+ Lava Leapers (Bible Memorization Activity)

• Supplies: Rope or yarn (2 pieces per group)
• Today's Bible Verse: “At one time (hold up one finger) you were far away from God (march in place). But now you belong (hug yourself) to Christ Jesus (hold arms out like a cross).” Ephesians 2:13 (extend hands like you’re holding a book).
• Directions: Practice the Bible verse together until the children can remember it. When ready, lay the two pieces of rope on the floor parallel to one another with about 6 inches in-between. Tell the children to imagine the space between the ropes is a river of hot lava. Have the children line up along one side of the lava. As a group, recite the verse together, then leap over the lava. If the children land in the lava, they can pretend to sink into it. Next, move one of the ropes 6 inches further away so the river is wider, then repeat. Keep moving the rope 6 inches each time until the children can no longer jump across. If time and interest allow, play again from the beginning.

+ Wiggle Freeze (Bible Story Review Activity)

• Supplies: None
• Directions: Tell the children that when you say, “Wiggle,” they can move and wiggle in whatever way they want, but when you say, “Freeze,” they have to stop and remain totally still until someone is caught moving. Begin by repeatedly saying “Wiggle” for as long as you would like, then say “Freeze!” The children will freeze in place. Watch closely to see which child moves first. Whichever child moves first, ask that child what happened first in today’s Bible story. (They don’t have to tell the whole story, just the first part.) If necessary, allow the other children to help. When finished, begin saying “Wiggle” again and repeat the above instructions. For each additional round, ask the child who moves first to tell what happened next in the story. Continue playing until the whole story has been told.

+ My Family (Response to God Activity)

• Supplies: GO! Home Guide (1 per child), markers or crayons
• Directions: Give each child a GO! Home Guide and some crayons or markers. The sheet will have a space for children to draw. Tell the children to draw a picture of their family or people who care for them. When finished, have the children show their picture and talk about their drawing.
• Say: Today we learned that Jesus is like a Good Shepherd and we are like His sheep. One of the ways Jesus cares for us is by giving us people who care for us. Let’s say a prayer and thank Jesus for our families.
• Prayer: Begin by asking if any of the children would like to pray. Allow any children who want to pray the opportunity to do so. When they’re finished, close the prayer by thanking Jesus for your family and for all the families of the child.

+ Coloring Sheet (GO! Deeper Activity)

• Supplies: Bible story coloring sheet, markers or crayons
• Directions: Give each child a Bible story coloring sheet and some crayons or markers. While the children are coloring, give them a snack to eat and ask the following questions to help them go deeper into the story.
• Question: What was your favorite part of today’s Bible story?
• Question: The Good Shepherd takes care of His sheep. How do you think Jesus takes care of you?

+ Block Party

• Supplies: Building blocks
• Directions: Work together with the children to build a house out of blocks. When finished, challenge the children to blow the house down. If they can’t do it, allow them to knock the house down with their hands. Rebuild a new house and repeat as often as time and interest allow.
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, Jesus talks about a wise man who built a house that couldn’t be knocked down. In a little bit, we’re going to find out how the man did it and we’re going to learn that we can do what the Bible says.
• Question: Do you have a favorite book? What is it?

+ House on a Rock (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Legos™ or similar (enough to build a small house), plastic bin (1 per group), large rock (1 per group), sand (small bucket full), pitcher of water (1 per group)
• Say: Jesus said that people who listen to His words and do what He says are like a wise man who builds his house on a rock. No matter what kind of bad things happen, you’ll be able to stand strong for God. Let’s do an activity that helps us understand what Jesus meant.
• Directions: Work as a group to build a small house out of Legos™ or similar. When finished, place the house on a pile of sand in a plastic bin. Slowly pour water near the base of the house and watch as the sand washes away and the house falls down. Next, place the house on a rock. Slowly pour water near the base of the house and watch as the house stands strong.
• Say: When we don’t listen to Jesus and do what He says, we’re like the house on the sand. When bad things happen, we get washed away with fear and worry. But when we do listen to Jesus and do what He says, we’re like the house on the rock. When bad things happen, we stand strong on the Word of God.
• Question: Why do you think it’s important to listen to Jesus and do what He says?

+ All Fall Down (Application Activity)

• Supplies: None
• Say: When we listen to the words of Jesus and do what He says, we’re like a wise man who builds his house on a rock. That means we can stand strong on God’s Word no matter what happens. Let’s play a game that helps us listen for Jesus’ words.
• Directions: Read the sentences below one at a time. If it’s something Jesus said, the children must do a power pose and say, “I can do what the Bible says.” If it’s not something Jesus said, the children must all fall down. Continue until all of the sentences have been read.
• Sentences:
  • • “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. (Matthew 22:37)
  • • “Don’t listen to your mom and dad. Do whatever you want.” (NOT Jesus’ words.)

• Directions: Practice the Bible verse together until the children can remember it. When ready, tell the children they’re going to say the Bible verse while pretending to be animals from around the world. Allow the children to take turns rolling the dice, then recite the Bible verse while performing the corresponding animal action below. (Note: they do not have to do the hand motions while performing the animal actions.)
• Animal Actions:
  1. Soar through the air like Eddy the Eagle.
  2. Hop like Betty the Bunny.
  3. Gallop like Henry the Horse.

+ Topher's Zoo Time Adventure! (Bible Story Review Activity)

• Supplies: Zoo Time game board (1 per group), Topher game piece cutout (1 per group), Zoo Time Adventure cards (1 set per group)
• Preparations: Print the game board, Topher game piece, and Zoo Time Adventure cards on cardstock paper. Cut out the Topher game piece and cut apart the 7 Zoo Time Adventure cards.
• Directions: Tell the children the object of the game is to help Topher the Gopher get to his friends at the zoo. Place the Topher game piece at the starting point. Place the Zoo Time Adventure cards face down in a pile. Allow the children to take turns drawing a card. Read the card aloud, then after the children answer the question or perform the action, allow them to move Topher the number of spaces indicated on the card. Continue playing until Topher has reached his zoo.

+ Jesus and Me (Response to God Activity)

• Supplies: GO! Home Guide (1 per child), markers or crayons
• Directions: Give each child a GO! Home Guide and some crayons or markers. The sheet will have a space for children to draw. Tell the children to draw a picture of themselves with Jesus. While they are drawing, ask the children why they love Jesus.
• Say: Jesus loves spending time with us. One of the ways we can spend time with Jesus is by talking to Him through prayer. In fact, let’s do that right now. Let’s tell Jesus all of the reasons we love Him.
• Prayer: Begin by asking if any of the children would like to pray. Allow any children who want to pray the opportunity to do so. When they’re finished, close the prayer by telling Jesus about some of the things the children shared. Tell Jesus why you love Him too.

+ Playdough Party

• Supplies: Playdough (1 piece per child), plastic knife
• Directions: Tell the children to create their favorite food using the playdough. When finished, have a pretend dinner party. Encourage the children to break or cut off pieces of their “food” and give it to other children. When all of their food has been given away, encourage them to make something else and repeat.
• Say: You did a great job giving away your food. In today’s true Bible story, Jesus talks about giving to other people.
• Question: Is it easy or hard for you to give your things away to other people? Why?

+ Secret Givers (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Bean bags or similar (3 per group)
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, Jesus said that we should give to needy people, but we should do it very quietly so that no one knows we did it. Let’s play a game that helps us practice giving to people in secret.
• Directions: Choose 3 children to be the “givers” and hand them a bean bag. Have the remaining children sit in a row with their eyes closed and hands out. When ready, tell the “givers” to very quietly tiptoe toward the children, place their bean bag in one of the children’s hands, then tiptoe back. When finished, tell the children to open their eyes and have the recipients guess which child gave them the bean bag. For additional rounds, have the recipients become the new “givers.” Continue playing until every child has had a turn being the “giver.”
• Supplies: Have you ever given something away? What did you give? What did it feel like to give?

+ Mystery Bags (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Paper lunch bags (3 per group), rubber bands (3 per group), large marshmallow (1 per group), sock (1 per group), toy car (1 per group)
• Preparations: Place the marshmallow, sock, and toy car in separate paper lunch bags. Place a rubber band around the opening of each bag. The rubber band should be tight enough to cinch the bag mostly closed, but loose enough to squeeze a hand through.
• Say: Jesus loves when we give to needy people. Let’s play a game that helps us think of some things we could give to people who need help.
• Directions: One at a time, pass each of the mystery bags around the circle. Encourage the children to take turns putting their hand in the bag without looking and trying to guess what’s inside using only their sense of touch. When everyone has had a turn, reveal the mystery item to the children, then ask the corresponding question below.
• Question:
  • Marshmallow: What are some other foods you could give to a needy person?
  • Sock: What are some other clothes you could give to a needy person?
  • Toy car: What are some other toys you could give to a needy person?

• Prayer: Begin by asking if any of the children would like to pray. Allow any children who want to pray the opportunity to do so. When they’re finished, close the prayer by telling God about the things in the children’s drawings and by asking Him to help the children give to people who need help.

+ Book Nook

• Supplies: Fictional children’s picture book (1), Bible
• Directions: Gather children around and read them a story from a fictional children’s picture book. When finished, ask the children if the story was true or not true. Next, ask them how they know that.
• Say: The story we read is NOT true! That means it didn’t really happen. In a little bit, we’re going to read a story from another book called the Bible. (Hold up Bible.) Are the stories in the Bible true or not true? (Children answer.) That’s right! The Bible is God’s Word and all of God’s words are true. Everything in the Bible really happened.
• Question: Do you have a favorite true story from the Bible? What is it?

+ Hop To It (Application Activity)

• Supplies: None
• Say: In today’s Bible story, Jesus was tempted to do the wrong thing, but He said, “No, no, no! The Bible says not to.” We can also say no to temptation. Let’s play a game to help us say “no” to temptation.
• Directions: Have the children line up against the wall on one side of the room. Read the statements from the list below one at a time. If it’s something the Bible says to do, the children should take one hop forward and say, “Yes, yes yes! The Bible is the best!” If it’s a temptation, the children should stay put and say, “No, no, no! The Bible says not to!” Continue until all of the statements have been read and/or the children have reached the other side of the room.
• Statements:
  • I can tell my friends about Jesus.
  • I can call my brother a mean name.
  • I can share my toys with my sister.
  • I can tell my dad a lie.
  • I can obey my mom and dad.
  • I can tell the truth when it’s hard.
  • I can push people when they’re in my way.
  • I can yell at my mom when I’m angry.
  • I can sing praises to Jesus.
  • I can do what the Bible tells me.

+ My Bible Bookmark (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Bible stickers (7 per child), Bible bookmark (1 per child), markers or crayons
• Preparations: Print the Bible stickers on Avery® 1-inch diameter, white, round labels (6450). Cut the label sheets into strips with 7 stickers per strip.
• Say: Today we learned that we can do what the Bible says, but we can’t know what the Bible says if we don’t read it. Let’s make a bookmark that helps us read the Bible this week.
• Directions: Give each child a bookmark and a strip of 7 stickers. Each sticker will have a picture of the Bible. Give the children a few minutes to color the Bible stickers. While they’re coloring, challenge the children to read their Bible one time every day for the next 7 days. Tell them to ask their parents for help. Each day, after they read their Bible, they can remove one of the stickers and place it on the bookmark. When the children are finished coloring, open a children’s Bible and read a story to them. They can choose the Bible story, or you can choose for them. Afterwards, have the children remove the first sticker and place it on the correct day of the bookmark. Encourage them to continue doing this for the rest of the week.

Encourage the children to color in the face of “Jesus.” Let them know they will not be able to see the marker on their paper until the special light is turned on. When finished, shine a black light onto the coloring sheet to make the face of Jesus shine bright.
• Say: When we shined the light on Jesus, His face became bright. In today’s true Bible story, Jesus’ face shines bright as the sun. We’ll hear all about it in a little bit and learn that Jesus is the Son of God.
• Question: Do you have a favorite story about Jesus? What is it?

+ Hot Potato (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Bean bag or similar
• Say: Today we learned that Jesus is the Son of God. We’re going to play a game that helps us talk about why Jesus is so special.
• Directions: Sit in a circle with the children. Begin quickly passing the “hot potato” around the circle while everyone sings the following song to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”: “Jesus is the Son of God, Son of God, Son of God. Jesus is the Son of God who loves me very much.” When finished singing, stop passing the “hot potato.” Have the child who is holding the potato answer the question below. Continue until everyone has had a turn answering. (If the child holding the potato has already answered, move to the closest child who hasn’t answered)
• Question: Why do you think Jesus is so special? What is your favorite thing about Jesus?

+ Let's Face It (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Paper (1 piece per child), flashlight (1 per group), markers or cray
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, Jesus’ face shined as bright as the sun. Then God spoke from a cloud and said, “This is my son, and I love him. I am very pleased with him.” Let’s play a game that helps us remember how Jesus’ face shined bright.
• Directions: Give each child a blank piece of paper and a marker or crayon. Tell them they are going to draw Jesus’ face one part at a time, but they must wait for you to tell them what to draw. Begin by telling the children, “Jesus had a head like us,” then have the children draw a head. (Draw your own picture so the children can follow along.) When everyone is finished, say, “Jesus had a mouth like us,” then have the children draw a mouth. Continue doing this for each of the following parts: head, mouth, eyes, nose, hair, and ears. When finished, turn on the flashlight and hold it to the backside of the picture. The light will shine through the paper and make Jesus’ face light up. Let each child take turns holding the flashlight to the backside of their drawing while saying the Big Idea: “Jesus is the Son of God.”
• Question: If Jesus were here right now, what would you say to Him? (Note: Remind the children that even though we can’t see Him, Jesus is here right now and they can tell Him those things anytime.)

+ In the Wild (Bible Memorization Activity)

• Supplies: Dice

• Preparation: For each child, attach a pipe cleaner to a jingle bell. Bend the pipe cleaner into a loop and twist the ends together to form a handle for the bell.
• Directions: Practice the Bible verse together until the children can remember it. When ready, tell the children they’re going to say the Bible verse while pretending to be animals from around the world. Allow the children to take turns rolling the dice, then recite the Bible verse while performing the corresponding animal action below. • Directions: Use the play people and the bin of water to play act how baptism works at your church. Show the children what happens during a baptism by moving the play people around. Depending on the number of play people you have, “characters” can include the person being baptized, the pastor, the mom and dad, and the congregation. You can use the bullet point questions below as a guide for the play acting:
  • Who can be baptized at your church? How old do you have to be?
  • Where does the baptism take place?
  • Who comes to watch the baptism?
  • What does the pastor say at a baptism?
• Question: Have you ever seen someone get baptized? What do you remember from it?

• Say: In a lot of ways, Jesus is just like you and me, He has a nose and two ears, He has a mommy and a daddy, and He grew up to be a big boy. But in some ways, Jesus is very different. We’re going to play a game that helps us see how Jesus is special.
• Directions: Read the “Jesus Statements” from the list below. If it’s something the children can do, have them repeat the action. If it’s something they cannot do, have them shout, “Jesus is the Son of God.” When finished with the list, have the children come up with (and perform) other ways Jesus is like them.

+ Cloth Covered Baby

• Supplies: Baby dolls, strips of cloth
• Preparations: Tear a white bedsheet into numerous strips about 3–4 inches wide and 3–4 feet long.
• Directions: Encourage the children to pretend the baby dolls are baby Jesus. Have the children wrap baby Jesus with the long strips of cloth. They can then rock baby Jesus. Ask the children what else they could do to care for baby Jesus, then encourage them to act it out with the doll.
• Say: The Bible says that baby Jesus was wrapped in strips of cloth and laid in a manger. In today’s true story, we’re going to hear about the first people to come visit baby Jesus.
• Question: How did you celebrate Christmas this year? What was your favorite part?

+ The Sheep Shuffle (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Candy canes, cotton balls (2–3 per child), Sheep Pen printout
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, an angel told the shepherds the good news about baby Jesus. Let’s play a game where you pretend to be the shepherds and I pretend to be the angel.
• Directions: Place the sheep pen printout on the floor in the middle of the group. Tell the children to pretend that the candy canes are shepherd’s hooks and the cotton balls are sheep. Spread the cotton balls around the area and have the children use their candy canes to scoot the cotton balls onto the sheep pen. While they are working, periodically shout, “Freeze! I bring you good news. A savior has been born to you!” Have the children respond by shouting, “Praise God for baby Jesus!” then allow them to return to shepherding. Play as many rounds as time and interest allow. When finished, allow the children to take their candy cane home.
• Question: What do you love most about baby Jesus?

+ Shepherds Shout (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Music player, high-energy Christmas praise song, Piece of paper (1 per child), tape
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, the shepherds were so excited about baby Jesus that they praised God and told everyone the good news. Let’s pretend to be the shouting shepherds. We can have a baby Jesus dance party and shout, “Praise God for baby Jesus!”.
• Directions: Help the children roll a piece of paper into a megaphone shape (small opening at one end and large opening at the other). Tape the seam so the megaphone holds its shape. When finished, play a high-energy Christmas praise song. At various points throughout the song, pause the music. When the music is paused, everyone must freeze and shout into their megaphone, “Praise God for baby Jesus!” Un-pause the music and continue dancing. Repeat until the song is all finished.
• Question: What else do you want to say to baby Jesus? (Ex. “I love you baby Jesus.”) Let’s count to 3 and shout that in our megaphones to Jesus.

+ Jingle All the Way (Bible Memorization Activity)

• Supplies: Jingle bells (1–2 per child), pipe cleaner (1–2 per child)
• Today's Bible Verse: “Let us give thanks (hug yourself) to God (point up) for his gift (rock a baby).” 2 Corinthians 9:15 (extend hands like you’re holding a book).
• Preparation: For each child, attach a pipe cleaner to a jingle bell. Bend the pipe cleaner into a loop and twist the ends together to form a handle for the bell.
• Directions: Practice the verse together several times. When ready, give each child 1–2 jingle bells. Tell the children to recite the verse while shaking their bell once for every word in the verse. Repeat this numerous times. Each time, have the children shake the bell in a different way such as up high, down low, to the side, quietly, loudly, zig zag, behind their head, etc. Ask the children for ideas on different ways to shake the bells.

+ Picture This! (Bible Story Review Activity)

• Supplies: Story Picture Cards (1 set per group)
• Directions: Place the story picture cards face up. Challenge the children to place the story pictures in the correct order. As they place the pictures in order, ask them to recount the part of the story that goes along with the picture. Continue until the story is finished.
• Pictures in order:
  1. Sheep: Shepherds were caring for their sheep at night.
  2. Angel: An angel appeared to the shepherds.
  3. Manger: The angel said, “A savior has been born. You will find Him lying in a manger.”
  4. Footsteps: The shepherds walked to Bethlehem to see baby Jesus.
  5. Baby: When the shepherds arrived, they saw baby Jesus.
  6. Happy face: They were so happy. They praised God and told everyone the good news.

+ Tell the World (Response to God Activity)

• Supplies: GO! Home Guide (1 per child), markers or crayons
• Directions: Give each child a GO! Home Guide and some crayons or markers. The sheet will have a space for children to draw. Tell the children to draw a picture of all the people they want to tell that Jesus is born. When finished, ask the children to show their picture and to say who is in their drawing.
• Say: The birth of baby Jesus is the best news ever! We can tell the people in our drawing about baby Jesus just like the shepherds did. We’re going to say a prayer and ask God to help us tell people about baby Jesus.
• Prayer: Begin by asking if any of the children would like to pray. Allow any children who want to pray the opportunity to do so. When they’re finished, close the prayer by asking God to help the children tell their friends and family about baby Jesus.

• Say: Do you know what special day it is? It’s Christmas! On Christmas, we celebrate the birth of baby Jesus. God gave us baby Jesus so He could take away our sins and we could live with him forever in Heaven. Let’s make a baby Jesus ornament to help us remember this special day.
• Directions: Give each child a baby Jesus ornament. Have the children cut the ornament out and color it. Next, help them cut and glue raffia below baby Jesus to serve as hay in the manger. Finally, use a hole punch to punch a hole at the top of the ornament. Feed a piece of ribbon through the hole and tie it in a loop for the children.
• Question: What is your favorite part of Christmas?

+ Barnyard Praise Party (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Barnyard picture dice
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, baby Jesus was born in a barn with animals. Baby Jesus is the best gift ever! Let’s pretend like we’re the barnyard animals and shout, “Praise God for baby Jesus!”
• Directions: Allow the children to take turns rolling the barnyard picture dice. There is a different barnyard animal on each side. After rolling the dice, encourage the children to act like that animal. After a short time, say (for example), “All the sheep in the barnyard said…” Then have the children shout in sheep voices, “Praise God for baby Jesus!” Continue playing until all of the children have a turn rolling the dice.

• Say: Who was born on Christmas day? (Take answer.) That’s right—Jesus was born on Christmas day. Today, we’re going to celebrate Jesus’ birthday by throwing Him a party.
• Directions: Throw a birthday party for Jesus! Give each child a party hat and a cupcake or cookie to eat. Together as a group, sing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus. When finished, give each child a birthday card to color for Jesus. On the backside of the card, they can write a message or draw something for Jesus. When finished, collect the cards and hang them on a wall in the room.
• Question: If you could hold baby Jesus in your arms, what would you want to tell Him?

+ Jingle All the Way (Bible Memorization Activity)

• Supplies: Jingle bells (1–2 per child), pipe cleaner (1–2 per child)
• Today's Bible Verse: “Let us give thanks (hug yourself) to God (point up) for his gift (rock a baby).” 2 Corinthians 9:15 (extend hands like you’re holding a book).
• Preparation: For each child, attach a pipe cleaner to a jingle bell. Bend the pipe cleaner into a loop and twist the ends together to form a handle for the bell.
• Directions: Practice the verse together several times. When ready, give each child 1–2 jingle bells. Tell the children to recite the verse while shaking their bell once for every word in the verse. Repeat this numerous times. Each time, have the children shake the bell in a different way such as up high, down low, to the side, quietly, loudly, zig zag, behind their head, etc. Ask the children for ideas on different ways to shake the bells.

  2. Suitcase: Mary and Joseph packed their bags and traveled to Bethlehem.
  3. Cow: There were no rooms anywhere, so Mary and Joseph stayed in a barn with animals.
  4. Baby: Mary gave birth to baby Jesus.
  5. Manger: They wrapped baby Jesus in a cloth and laid Him in a manger.

• Directions: Give each child a GO! Home Guide and some crayons or markers. The sheet will have a space for children to draw. Tell the children to draw a picture of baby Jesus. When finished, ask the children to show their picture and to tell everyone what they love about baby Jesus.
• Say: Baby Jesus is the best gift ever. We’re going to say a prayer and tell God why we love baby Jesus so much.
• Prayer: Begin by asking if any of the children would like to pray. Allow any children who want to pray the opportunity to do so. When they’re finished, close the prayer by thanking God for baby Jesus and telling Him why you love Jesus so much.

• Supplies: Greatest Gift printable (1 per child), markers or crayons, stick-on gift bow
• Preparation: Print the “Greatest Gift” printable on 8½ x 11 paper, then cut along the solid line. When given to the children, the paper should be square in shape.
• Directions: Give each child one of the “Greatest Gift” sheets. Allow the children to color the picture of baby Jesus in the center of the sheet. When finished, instruct the children to fold the four corners of the paper along the dotted lines so they cover baby Jesus. Encourage the children to color the top of the paper like a pretty Christmas present. When finished coloring, help the children place a stick-on gift bow where the four corners meet to keep it closed. Encourage the children to give the gift to their parents. When their parents remove the bow and open the gift, the children can tell them, “Baby Jesus is the best gift ever!”

• Supplies: “Find the Baby” cards and cutout
• Say: During Christmas, we get to celebrate that God gives us baby Jesus. Baby Jesus is the best Christmas gift that has ever been given. Because of Jesus, we can live forever in Heaven with God. Let’s play a game that helps us say, “Thank you God for baby Jesus!”
• Directions: Place the 7 “Christmas Present” cards face up on the floor or table. Tell the children to close and cover their eyes while you hide the baby Jesus cutout under one of the presents. Next, tell them to open their eyes, then have them take turns choosing a present in search of baby Jesus. When baby Jesus is found, the children must all jump to their feet and shout, “Thank you God for baby Jesus!” Reset the presents and repeat. Allow the child who found baby Jesus to hide Him under a different present. Continue playing for as long as time and interest allow.

+ Happy, Happy Birthday (Application Activity)

• Supplies: None
• Say: Did you know that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday? It’s true! Let’s play a fun birthday game that helps us celebrate the birth of baby Jesus.
• Directions: This game is played just like “Duck, Duck, Goose.” Have the children sit in a circle. Choose one child to walk around the outside of the circle while tapping the other children on the head. On each tap, the child will say, “happy.” When the child says, “birthday,” the person who is tapped must jump up and chase the child around the circle, attempting to catch them before they sit down in their old spot. After each round, ask the child who was tapped to answer the question below.

• Directions: Give your child a piece of playdough. Challenge them to create the following Christmas shapes with their playdough: candy cane, Christmas tree, cookie, a present, and (lastly) a baby.
• Say: There are so many great things about Christmas—candy canes, Christmas trees, cookies and especially presents. (Hold up playdough baby.) But the best part about Christmas is baby Jesus. God gave us baby Jesus. He’s the reason we celebrate Christmas!
• Question: Why do you think baby Jesus is so special?

+ Great News Skate (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Wax paper (2 pieces per child), Thumbs Up/Down signs (1 set)
• Directions: Tape the “Thumbs Up” sign on one wall and the “Thumbs Down” sign on the opposite wall. Next, have the children place one piece of wax paper under each of their feet. One at a time, read the news items below. If it’s good news, the children should skate (slide their feet) to the thumbs up. If it’s bad news, they should skate to the thumbs down. Continue skating back and forth until all of the news has been read.
  • You’ve been invited to a birthday party.
  • Your favorite toy got lost.
  • You’re getting a puppy.
  • Your bike has a flat tire.
  • Your grandma is coming to visit.
  • Your dog ran away.

• Supplies: Baby doll
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, Mary got the best news ever! She was going to give birth to God’s Son—a baby named Jesus. There are so many great things about Christmas, but baby Jesus is the best! Let’s do an activity where we get to tell baby Jesus why we think He’s so special.
• Directions: Sit in a circle with the children. Show the children a baby doll and tell them to pretend like the doll is baby Jesus. Allow the children to take turns holding and rocking baby Jesus. While they are rocking baby Jesus, ask them the question below. When finished answering, count to 3, then have all of the children pretend to rock baby Jesus and say, “Thank you God for baby Jesus.” Hand the baby to another child and repeat until every child has had a turn rocking the baby and answering the question.

• Say: Today we’re going to discover that God wants us to learn together. Let’s play a fun game that helps us learn about each other!
• Directions: One at a time, read the “This or That” options below to the children, then have them indicate which one they would choose by hopping to one side of the room or the other. For example, “If you like pizza better, hop to this side of the room. If you like hamburgers better, hop to that side of the room.” You can add variation by changing the method of movement (skip, twirl, crawl, etc.). When finished with the list, let the children come up with their own.

+ Bop and Fall (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Inflated balloon
• Say: Today we learned that God wants us to learn together. Let’s play a game that helps us learn what the first 5 books of the Bible are.
• Directions: Practice saying the first 5 books of the Bible with the children: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. When ready, toss the balloon over the children and tell them to keep bopping it in the air without it touching the ground. Every time a child bops the balloon, the whole group must say one of the first 5 books of the Bible in order until they’ve bopped the balloon 5 times and progressed through all 5 books. When they get to Deuteronomy, shout, “All fall down!” and have the children fall to the ground. Next, have them get back up and do it again. Play as many rounds as interest allows. In the end, test the children to see if they remember all of the books in order.

+ Telephone (Application Activity)

• Supplies: None
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, the people of God listened very carefully to the Bible. We’re going to play a game that helps us listen very carefully to what the Bible tells us.
• Directions: Sit in a circle with the children. Tell the children they have to listen very carefully to hear what is being said. Begin by whispering a sentence from the list below to the child next to you. That child must then whisper what they heard to the child next to them. Continue in this manner until the sentence has been passed all the way around the circle. Have the last child tell everyone what they heard. Depending on how well they listened, the final sentence might be very similar or very different from how it started. Tell the children what the original sentence was so they can see how well they did. Continue until all of the sentences have been used.
• Telephone Sentences: Jesus love you; The Bible is true; God is so powerful; I can talk to God anytime; God created the whole world; God wants us to learn together.
• Question: What else have you learned from the Bible?

+ Bible Bubbles (Bible Memorization Activity)

• Supplies: Bottle of bubbles
• Today's Bible Verse: “Two people (hold up 2 fingers with one hand) are better than one (hold up 1 finger with the other hand). They can help each other (clasp arms together) in everything they do (march in place).” Ecclesiastes 4:9 (extend hands like you’re holding a book).
• Directions: Practice the verse together several times. When ready, tell the children that the bubbles are Bible-verse-activated. In order for the bubbles to be blown, they must all say the Bible verse together. After the children say the verse, blow the bubbles in the air and challenge the children to pop them all before they hit the ground. Continue playing for as long as time or interest allows.

+ Picture Party! (Bible Story Review Activity)

• Supplies: Butcher block paper (1 large sheet), markers or crayons
• Directions: Give the children markers or crayons and have them gather around a large piece of butcher block paper. Ask the children, “What happened first in today’s Bible story?” Allow the children to answer. Then, tell the children to draw that part of the story. It’s okay if they don’t know how to draw something. Just encourage them to do their best. They can each create their own drawings on the paper. When finished, ask the children what happened next in the story. Then, just like before, have them draw that part of the story. As the story unfolds, so will the drawings. When finished, consider hanging the butcher block paper on the wall for the children to see.

+ Church Friends (Response to God Activity)

• Supplies: GO! Home Guide (1 per child), markers or crayons
• Directions: Give each child a GO! Home Guide and some crayons or markers. The sheet will have a space for children to draw. Tell the children to draw a picture of a friend from church. When finished, have the children show their picture and explain who it is.
• Say: God gives us friends at church. Our church friends can help us learn about Jesus and follow Him. Let’s say a prayer and tell Jesus about our church friends. We can say, “Thank you!” for giving us friends at church.
• Prayer: Begin by asking if any of the children would like to pray. Allow any children who want to pray the opportunity to do so. When they’re finished, close the prayer by telling Jesus “Thank you!” for all of the friends at church and tell Him about some of the things the children shared.

• Say: Great job working together! Today, we’re going to hear a story about some people who worked together to build a wall that was WAY BIGGER than ours. We’re going to learn that when we work together, we get more done and have more fun!
• Question: Can you think of something that is REALLY hard for you to do by yourself?

+ The Great Paperclip Chain (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Box of large paperclips
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, Nehemiah and the Israelites worked together to build a BIG wall! When we work together, we get more done and have more fun. Let’s build a paperclip chain together so you can see what I mean.
• Directions: Give each child about 5 paperclips. Show them how to link the paperclips together, then give them time to make their own chain. When each child is finished, have them link their short paperclip chains together in order to create one long chain. If there is still interest, do a second round to make the chain even longer.
• Say: Wow—look how long our paperclip chain is! When you have a big job like that to do, do it with the family and friends God has given you. Doing a big job by yourself is hard, that’s why God wants us to work together.
• Question: How did it feel to work together? Do you think our paperclip chain would have been as long if we didn’t work together?

+ Wall Fall Down (Application Activity)

• Say: In today’s true Bible story, the wall around Jerusalem fell down, but then the people of Israel worked together to build it back up. God wants us to work together just like the people of Israel. Let’s play a game that helps us think of some ways we can work together.
• Directions: Have the children stand shoulder to shoulder like the wall of Jerusalem, then ask the question below. After one child has answered, count to 3 and shout, “Wall fall down!” The children must then fall down to the ground. Next, lead the children in repeatedly chanting “We work, we work, we work all night and day” while slowly rising back up to a standing position. Once standing, repeat the above instructions. Continue until everyone has had a turn answering the question.
• Question: Who can you help? What can you do to help them?

+ Bible Bubbles (Bible Memorization Activity)

• Supplies: Bottle of bubbles
• Today's Bible Verse: “Two people (hold up 2 fingers with one hand) are better than one (hold up 1 finger with the other hand). They can help each other (clasp arms together) in everything they do (march in place).” Ecclesiastes 4:9 (extend hands like you’re holding a book).
• Directions: Practice the verse together several times. When ready, tell the children that the bubbles are Bible-verse-activated. In order for the bubbles to be blown, they must all say the Bible verse together. After the children say the verse, blow the bubbles in the air and challenge the children to pop them all before they hit the ground. Continue playing for as long as time or interest allows.

+ Picture Party! (Bible Story Review Activity)

• Supplies: Butcher block paper (1 large sheet), markers or crayons
• Directions: Give the children markers or crayons and have them gather around a large piece of butcher block paper. Ask the children, “What happened first in today’s Bible story?” Allow the children to answer. Then, tell the children to draw that part of the story. It’s okay if they don’t know how to draw something. Just encourage them to do their best. They can each create their own drawings on the paper. When finished, ask the children what happened next in the story. Then, just like before, have them draw that part of the story. As the story unfolds, so will the drawings. When finished, consider hanging the butcher block paper on the wall for the children to see.

• Say: God gives us helpers and He wants us to work together. When we work together, we get more done and have more fun! Let’s say a prayer to God and tell him “thank you” for the helpers he has given us.
• Prayer: Begin by asking if any of the children would like to pray. Allow any children who want to pray the opportunity to do so. When they’re finished, close the prayer by telling God “thank you” for the helpers from the kid’s drawings.

• Supplies: Lion picture or stuffed animal (1)
• Directions: Tell the children to close and cover their eyes while you quietly hide the lion somewhere in the room. When ready, have the children open their eyes and begin hunting for the lion. Tell the children “you’re getting closer” or “you’re getting farther away” to help lead them to the lion. Once found, celebrate and repeat. During additional rounds, allow the children to take turns hiding the lion.
• Say: Today’s true Bible story is about a man named Daniel, but he wasn’t hunting lions. Instead, the lions were hunting him! We’re going to hear what happened to Daniel in just a little bit. We’re also going to learn that God protects us.
• Question: What face would you make if you were in a cage with a roaring lion?

• Supplies: None
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, Daniel was thrown into a den with roaring lions, but he was brave because he trusted God would protect him. Let’s play a game that helps us remember God protects us too.
• Directions: Tell the children to lie on the floor and pretend like they are sleeping. After a moment, quietly tap on one of the children. Once tapped, the child must wake up and roar like a lion. When the other children hear the roaring lion, they must jump to their feet, strike a brave pose and shout, “God protects me!” Have everyone lie down again and repeat. Continue playing until each child has had a turn being the roaring lion.
• Question: One of the ways God protects us is by giving us people to keep us safe. Who are some of the people who help keep you safe? What do they do to keep you safe?

+ Freeze Lions (Application Activity)

• Supplies: None
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, God protected Daniel from the roaring lions. Let’s play a lion game that helps us think of some things God protects us from.
• Directions: Tell the children that they are the lions and you are the angel. Have the lions get on their hands and knees in a circle. Choose one child to be Daniel. Have Daniel stand in the middle of the lions. Ask “Daniel” the question below. After answering, prompt the lions to begin roaring at Daniel. After a moment, walk around the circle and tap each lion on the head while saying “Freeze lion!” When tapped, the lion must freeze in place and close their mouth. When all of the lions are frozen, Daniel can escape. Repeat until each child has had a turn as Daniel. When finished, remind the children that God can protect us from the things that scare us.
• Question: What is something that makes you feel scared?

• Directions: Begin by striking a silly pose, then hold still like a statue. Tell the your child to match your “statue.” Challenge them to hold the pose for about 5 seconds without moving or laughing. Next, have your child take turns creating silly statues while the other children copy them.
• Say: You all make really great statues! In today’s true Bible story, there’s a king who says everyone has to bow down and worship a silly statue, but 3 brave men said, “No!” We’re going to find out what happened to them in just a little bit. We’ll also learn that God protects us.
• Question: What do you think God protects you from?

+ Hotter and Hotter (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Orange and yellow streamers (2 strips per child)
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, the king threw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into a fiery furnace and he made the flames 7 times hotter than usual, but God protected them. Let’s play a game that helps us remember that God protects us too.
• Directions: Give each child 2 strips of streamers (about 3 feet long per strip). Have the children form a circle, then choose 3 children to be Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and have them stand in the middle. Begin by having the children on the outside slowly shake their streamers close to the ground. As you shake your streamers with the children, slowly say, “The flames got hotter…and hotter…and hotter…” Every time you say “hotter,” lead the children in shaking their streamers a little bit higher and faster. When the children are shaking their streamers as high and as fast as they can, shout, “Freeze!” Together, freeze in place and say, “God protects me,” then fall back down to the ground. Continue playing rounds until everyone has had a turn being in the middle.
• Question: God protected Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fire. What does God protect you from?

+ Praise Party (Application Activity)

• Supplies: None
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, the king said “May the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be praised. No other god can save people this way.” Let’s play a game where we praise God for being so awesome.
• Directions: Tell the children they must stay down low to the ground and as quiet as a mouse, but when you point to them, they must all jump up together and shout “I love you God!” Next, ask the children, “Why do you think God is so wonderful?” If, for example, a child says, “God is wonderful because He gave me my mommy and daddy,” then say, “For giving us our mommies and daddies, we want to say…” Then point to the children and have them all jump to their feet as a group and shout, “…I love you God!” Continue until every child has had a turn answering the question.

+ Crown Toss

• Supplies: Crown (1), water bottles (5), masking tape.
• Say: Who wears a crown? (Children answer.) That’s right—kings and queens wear a crown. Today’s true Bible story is all about a very brave Queen named Esther. Let’s play a game with the queen’s crown.
• Directions: Use masking tape to create a throw line on the floor. Place a water bottle every 1 to 1.5 feet from the line so that each water bottle gets further away. Have the children take turns trying to toss the crown over the water bottles, starting with the bottle that is closest and working their way to the furthest one. (If you need to make a crown, see the directions for “Royal Crown” below.)
• Question: Have you ever felt brave before? When or why did you feel that way?

+ God My Shield (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Crumpled paper (1 piece per child), large piece of cardboard or poster board (1 piece per group)
• Say: The Bible tells us that God is like a shield to us. A shield protects us from danger and so does God. Let’s play a game that helps us remember that God protects us.
• Directions: Ahead of time, write the word “GOD” in big bold letters on the piece of cardboard or poster board. Next, ask the question below. When a child answers, give them the cardboard shield and have them stand about 6 feet away. Tell the child to shout, “God protects me,” then count to 3 and have the other children throw their crumpled paper at the child with the shield. The child will use the shield to deflect the paper balls. Repeat until every child has had a turn answering the question and holding the shield.
• Question: When is a time or where is a place that you need God to protect you?

+ Royal Crown (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Paper plates (1 per child), scissors, markers or crayons
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, God protected Queen Esther and her people. Let’s make a crown just like Queen Esther wore. When we finish, we can be brave like Queen Esther and shout, “God protects me.”
• Directions: Give each child a paper plate and some markers or crayons. Tell the children to decorate the bottom of their plate however they would like. While the children are working, ask them, “Can you think of a time when God has kept you safe?” When finished, fold the plate in half (colored side out) and make 3 cuts according to the diagram below. Next, make 2 more cuts along the fold. Do not cut all the way to the outer edge of the plate. When finished cutting, unfold the plate and bend the triangle shapes upward into the form of a crown. Encourage the children to wear their crown. When everyone is finished, count to 3 and have the children shout in their best king or queen voice, “God protects me!”.

• Directions: Tell the children to imagine that their friends (the stuffed animals) are sick and they need our help. Using the toy doctor kit and various medical supplies, help them role-play what they would do to help their sick friend.
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, there’s a little boy who is very, very sick! In fact, he’s so sick that he dies. But God can do miracles. In just a little bit, we’ll hear what God does to help the boy.
• Question: When you feel sick, what do you do to get better? Do you pray to God about it?

+ Who Achood (Application Activity)

• Supplies: None
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, a little boy died, but then Elisha prayed to God. The little boy sneezed 7 times, then he came back to life. It was a miracle—something only God can do. Let’s play a game that helps us remember that.
• Directions: Have all of the children lie face down on the floor while covering their eyes. Quietly tap one of the children on the head or shoulder. When a child is tapped, they must say “Achoo” as if they sneezed. When the children hear someone say “Achoo!” they must all hop to their feet and shout, “God can do miracles!” Next, have the children guess who said “Achoo.” Reveal who it was, have the children lie back down, then continue playing additional rounds until everyone has had a turn saying “Achoo."
• Question: God can do anything. When you feel sick, what could you ask God to do for you?

+ Raisin' Up the Boy (Application Activity)

• Supplies: Raisins (1 per child), carbonated soda water, clear drinking glass/cup
• Say: God can do miracles—He even made a little boy come back to life. Let’s do an activity that reminds us how God raised the little boy from the dead.
• Directions: Ask the children the question below. When a child answers, give them a raisin. Tell them not to eat the raisins, though. When every child has a raisin, tell them to imagine that the raisin is the little boy in today’s story. Next, open the carbonated soda water and pour it into the clear drinking glass. Tell a few children at a time to put their “little boy” (raisin) in the water. At first, the raisins will sink to the bottom. Watch as the bubbles in the water cause the raisins to float up, then sink back down again. Whenever a raisin sinks to the bottom, have the children say “Achoo!” until the raisin rises up again.
• Question: God can do anything. What do you think He can do for you.

+ Bible Balance (Bible Memorization Activity)

• Supplies: Tape (1 roll)

• Preparations: Using painters or masking tape, create a tape line on the floor approximately 10 feet long.
• Directions: Practice the verse together several times. When ready, challenge the children to cross the balance beam while saying the verse and without stepping off. For each additional round have the children cross the balance beam using a different method from the list below.

+ Mixed-Up Miracles (Application Activity)

• Supplies: “Mixed-Up Miracle” cards
• Directions: There are two sets of cards: verb cards and noun cards. Spread the verb cards in one pile and the noun cards in another pile. Allow the children to take turns drawing one card from each pile. Read aloud the verb and then the noun. The combination will (most likely) create a mixed-up miracle. (Example: Healed bread from the sky) Ask the children if that sounds like something God really did. Continue until all of the cards are gone.
• Say: God can do miracles, but those miracles seemed like they were mixed up. Let’s try to match them so they tell us about real miracles that God did.
• Directions: Hold up and read one verb card at a time, then allow the children to decide which noun card goes with it. (See below for the answer key.) After each card is successfully matched, count to three and have the group say, “God can do miracles.”

After 5–15 seconds, pause the music and shout, “Freeze!” The children must freeze in place. Count to 3 aloud then have the children shout the Big Idea together, “I can praise God with singing!” Repeat the above instructions until the song is over. If you want to add some variety, have the children use a different voice from the list below each time they say the Big Idea.

+ Jingle Jam

• Supplies: Jingle bells (2–3 per child), pipe cleaner (1 per child)
• Directions: LGive each child 2–3 jingle bells and a pipe cleaner. Show the children how to feed the end of the pipe cleaner through the loop on the jingle bell. Bend the pipe cleaner into a circle and twist the ends together to form a handle for the bell. When finished, shake your bell to a rhythm, then ask the children to copy you. Next, encourage the children to take turns leading the group in a rhythm of their own.
• Say: Wow! That sounded so pretty! God loves it when we praise Him with musical instruments. In today’s true Bible story, the people of Israel praise God with instruments too. We’ll hear all about it in just a little bit.
• Question: If you could play any musical instrument, what instrument would you want to play?

+ Praise Shakers

• Supplies: Paper plate (1 per child), rice or beans (½ cup per child), markers, stapler, music player.
• Say: God is so, so good. His love for us never ends. And because of that, we can praise God with music. Let’s make some musical instruments that we can use to praise God.
• Directions: Give each child a paper plate and some markers. Encourage the children to draw a praise picture to God on the bottom side of their plate. Next, pour ½ cup of rice or beans onto the plate, fold the plate in half and staple the outer edges together. Be sure to use enough staples so that rice or beans don’t fall through the seam. When finished, play an upbeat praise song that is familiar to the children. Have the children dance and shake their shakers while singing along. When finished, sit down and ask the question below.
• Question: Why do you think God deserves our praise? In other words, what’s so special about God?

+ Clap Along (Application Activity)

• Supplies: None
• Say: In today’s true Bible story, the people of Israel praised God with music and singing. God loves when we praise Him. Let’s play a game where we clap for God and shout praises to Him.
• Directions: This is a “repeat-after-me” game. Step 1: Create a simple beat to clap to. It could be something like this: clap, clap, clap-clap-clap. Encourage the children to repeat it after you. Step 2: When finished clapping, shout, “The Lord is good!” Encourage the children to repeat. Step 3: Clap the same beat from step one. Encourage the children to repeat. Step 4: When finished clapping, shout, “His faithful love continues forever.” Encourage the children to repeat. (See below for a quick-guide.) For each additional round, let the children take turns creating the beat. If the children become comfortable enough, consider adding some foot stomps to the beat..

• Supplies: Age-appropriate magazines (4–5), scissors (1 per child), glue sticks (1 per child), poster board (1)
• Directions: Lead your child(ren) in creating a wish list collage. Tell them to flip through the magazines and cut out anything they wish they could have, then have them glue it to the poster board. • Directions: Tell the children that they’re going on a pretend road trip in the car, but they have to figure out where they are going. During the road trip, the children must follow the leader and do everything you do. Begin by pretending to drive a car. Stop at each of the destinations listed below one at a time. While the children mimic you, act out what you might do while at that destination until the children can guess where they are. When they have guessed correctly, ask the children, “What are some good choices you could make at the [fill in location]?” After taking some answers, continue driving to the next destination.
• Locations: Soccer game; Swimming pool; Playground; Doctor’s office; Grocery store; Airport/Airplane; Church.

+ Copy That (Bible Memorization Activity)

• Supplies: None

• Directions: Practice the verse together several times. When ready, tell your child to say the verse with you while copying your action. For example, spin around, or hop on one foot, or hold your tongue, or do a silly dance. When finished, allow your child to be the leader, then have everyone say the verse while copying them. Take turns several times to reinforce the memory verse.

+ Story Bop (Bible Story Review Activity)

• Supplies: Balloon, music player
• Directions: Have the everyone stand in a cluster, then begin playing music. As the music plays, everyone must continually bop the balloon into the air. Let the music play for 5 to 20 seconds before pausing it. When the music stops, everyone must try to catch the balloon. Ask whoever who catches it, “What happened first in today’s Bible story?” Only allow them to tell a small part of the story. Allow the others to help answer if needed. When finished, begin playing the music and bopping the balloon in the air again. Ask the next person who catches the balloon, “What happened next in the story?” Repeat this until the whole story has been told!

• Say: When we make bad choices, it makes God sad. But if we ask Jesus to forgive us, He washes our sins away so that we can be friends with Him forever. Let’s say a prayer and tell Jesus we’re sorry for making these bad choices.
• Prayer: Begin by asking if any of the children would like to pray. Allow any children who want to pray the opportunity to do so. When they’re finished, ask Jesus to forgive the children for the sins they talked about and thank Him for loving you no matter what.

+ Coloring Sheet (GO! Deeper Activity)

• Supplies: Bible story coloring sheet, markers or crayons
• Directions: Give each child a Bible story coloring sheet and some crayons or markers. While the children are coloring, ask the following questions to help them go deeper into the story.
• Question: God said to Solomon, “Ask me for anything you want and I’ll give it to you.” What did Solomon ask for? What would you ask for?
• Question: Solomon could have asked for money, long life, or victory in battle, but instead, he asked for help making good choices. Why do you think he did that?

Dear God, You are bigger than all of the things that scare me. Please help me to be brave when something scary happens. Amen.

• Read the account of Solomon from the Bible in 1 Kings 2-3 with your child.
