D-I-Y HOME DEVOTIONS

“I know it’s important to read and study God’s Word at home with my spouse and family, but I’ve never done it before. I don’t know how to do it.”

It is intimidating to try something that you’ve never done before or never experienced before. Using the buttons below, you can do a real simple D-I-Y home devotion by yourself, with your spouse, or with your family.

PREPARE FOR YOUR DEVOTION TIME:

  • Find a place in your home where you can eliminate distractions. Put phones on silent and turn off the TV.

  • This devotion facilitates participation. If you are with others, we think you will get a lot more out of this devotional format by reading the parts of this service aloud, the responses, lesson, and prayers.

  • Families with children, this devotion is for them too. Children learn best by imitating. Lead them in this service. Help them participate. Maybe they are old enough to read one of the prayers or lessons. Take a moment to describe what’s happening. See if they have any questions. Encourage them to draw what they are hearing while you all listen. Take advantage of the opportunities to pause and encourage questions and discussions.

  • Load the YouTube videos below and hit “pause” as soon as it starts. This will eliminate distracting ads when you get to that part of the service.

  • Load the devotional video so that it is ready to play when you get to that part of the service.

  • Pause for a moment in private prayer and quietness.

  • Pray the following prayer:
Heavenly Father, I (we) have come to worship you. Draw near to me (us) in your gracious Word, and assure me (us) of your loving kindness. Curb my (our) wandering thoughts, that with undivided attention I (we) may hear your voice and speak your praise. Amen.
