March 2020 WELS Connection

The March edition of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) Connection highlighting news from our national church body - This month, we hear how many WELS congregations use kids summer Bible camps to build bridges to the gospel in their communities. Bethlehem Lutheran Church, a home mission in Richland Center, Wis., used a STEM camp to connect with young families in its neighborhood.

February 2020 WELS Connection

The February edition of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) Connection highlighting news from our national church body - This month, we hear about the new hymnal being produced by our Synod. It’s been 495 years since the first Lutheran hymnal was published—it had just eight hymns. As God has blessed us with new music over the centuries, the hymnal has expanded and adapted for new communities. That process continues, with a new WELS hymnal coming out later next year. A preview of the hymnal is available now, leading up to Advent 2021 when the full hymnal—along with 17 volumes of companion materials—will be released. December 2019 WELS Connection

The December edition of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) Connection highlighting news from our national church body - This month, we learn about the WELS Special Ministries Commission and how it exists to serve those whose needs aren’t fully met in a traditional congregational setting. Just a few examples are: men and women serving in the military, the visually impaired or hard of hearing, people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and those who are in prison. Every community has incarcerated people who could benefit from the services of WELS Special Ministries.

The One Africa Team is a valuable platform for connecting to the growing opportunities in Africa. The work in Africa is entering an exciting new phase. As the national churches there mature and communication technologies improve—God is giving us new opportunities to spread the gospel through our national partners to new places.

October WELS Connection

The October edition of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) Connection highlighting news from our national church body - This month we hear about how Martin Luther College (MLC), New Ulm, Minn. is recognizing 150+ years of ministerial training in our synod by celebrating the 2020 silver anniversary of MLC with a two-year campaign. The title, “Equipping Christian Witnesses,” reflects not only the mission of its institution—to train a corps of Christian witnesses to meet WELS ministry needs—but also the pillars of the campaign; Recruitment, Financial Aid, and Facilities.

September WELS Connection

The September edition of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) Connection highlighting news from our national church body - This month, we hear a recap of the 2019 Synod Convention, which was held July 29 -August 1 on the campus of Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minn. There, more than 400 delegates met under the theme, ”For the Generations to Come”. Bringing together lay and called worker representatives from all over the country allows our church body to build consensus as we plan our future gospel ministry work.

The June edition of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) Connection highlighting news from our national church body - This month we are reminded that the God-given mission of the church is to seek the lost. Knowing that, we rightly dedicate much effort and resources to reaching the unchurched and those who have never known their Savior. But that same zeal for missions should lead us also to recognize that we have a ripe mission field right in our own congregations, among family, friends, and neighbors who once worshiped with us but have now strayed.
