Whole-in-One Golf Camp

  • Our Savior Lutheran Church

(W)HOLE IN ONE golf camp is put on by Our Savior Lutheran Church and is an opportunity for young athletes to grow in both their golf skills and their faith in Jesus. The philosophy of the camp is to teach solid fundamental golf skills while providing Christian fellowship. All of our instructors have an enthusiasm for children, as well as experience playing and/or coaching golf. We want your child to increase their golf skills while meeting new friends and having lots of fun!

This year’s camp will be covering a variety of golf skills including: grip, stance, swing, chipping, driving, golf etiquette, and strategy. There will also be faith building lessons revolving around our camp theme: (w)Hole in One. Lessons from God’s Word will remind participants that Jesus came fix the brokenness of our sin and make us whole again in his love and forgiveness.

(W)HOLE IN ONE golf camp is for rising fourth graders through rising ninth-graders. Registration is only $50 and includes three days of golf instruction, including time at the Ballantrae golf course driving range and course, and complimentary golf kit for each camper with a free sleeve of balls, ball marker, tees, and golf towel. Each camper will also receive a camp workbook. Golf club rentals are available through Ballantrae golf course if needed on Friday.

This year’s camp runs from Wednesday, June 28th through Friday, June 30th, from 8:30am to 12:00pm. Due to space restraints and the desire for individual instruction, there is a limited number of openings.

Summer Sunday School

  • Our Savior Lutheran Church

At A Mighty Fortress kids will learn that God is our mighty fortress who fights for us and protects us. Kids learn early that they can’t win every game, ace every test, or conquer every challenge. But, they can confidently celebrate that Jesus, their champion, has won the victory over sin, death, and Satan.  Because the victory is won, every day is a day to celebrate! God’s victory is shown in the Bible accounts of the fall of Jericho, God’s rescue of King Hezekiah’s kingdom, King Josiah’s reading of God’s Word, the Savior King’s triumphal entry, and Jesus’ victory through His death and resurrection. We will also be learning about and supporting the WELS European chaplaincy program, including Pastor Stuppy, who is serving our fellow believers in Germany and other parts of Europe. This program is aimed at kids in Kindergarten through grade six and will begin on June 18th. If you are interested in helping with decorating or crafts, or if have any questions contact the Church Office.

Pentecost Worship Service

I will pour out my Spirit. God’s Old Testament people celebrated the gathering of the harvest at the Festival of Weeks. On the fiftieth day, God sent the promised Counselor on the day we call “Pentecost” (Greek for “fifty” from in Leviticus 23:15). This day marked the birthday of the New Testament Church and celebrates the harvest of souls won by the Son and gathered by his servants empowered by his Spirit. Pentecost is the third great festival of the Church and has been commemorated since at least 217 A.D. The Church dresses in red to remind us of the tongues of fire that marked the Spirit’s gift and the blood of the martyrs which was the seed of the Church. This day culminates the Season of Easter when our risen Lord now empowers his people to be witnesses of the resurrection for the world.

Ascension Worship Service

  • Our Savior Lutheran Church

You are invited to our special midweek worship service to celebrate Christ’s return to his throne after his resurrection. Jesus Ascension reminds us that Christ rules all things for the good of his Church.  Join us for this joyful worship service at 7:00 pm. Following the worship service, we will again head to the Chelsea Dairy Queen for our annual “Ascension Day Ice Cream.” Hope you can make it to worship our risen and ascended Savior!

In the early 700s AD, there lived an English churchman known to history as the Venerable Bede. He was the great teacher of the middle ages, the man who divided history into AD and BC, the first great historian of the English language and a devout man of God. On May 25, 735 AD, on the great Ascension Vigil, Bede finished his translation of the Gospel of St. John into Old English. Then, on that day of Ascension, he died. From his deathbed, the Teacher of the Middle Ages spoke the words that have become the Prayer of the Day on Ascension. This beautiful prayer sets the tone for the day, beginning with a note of triumph and ending with a supplication for the Spirit and his work.

Lord Jesus, King of glory, on this day you ascended far above the heavens and at God’s right hand you rule the nations. Leave us not alone, we pray, but grant us the Spirit of truth that at your command and by your power we may be your witnesses in all the world; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Easter Festival Worship Service

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Sinners should fear God. Sinners ought to die for their wickedness. The grave should be the place of ultimate defeat for mankind. Yet on this day, the Second Adam did all that the first had left undone. Bearing our guilt and suffering our verdict, the Son of Man died, but three days later he rose in glory. As a result, fear is gone, mankind is redeemed, and Christ calls us his own brothers. Jesus came from death to life, and through baptism he brings us with him.

Easter Morning Service

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! The Church gathers at dawn and remembers the early hours of the first Easter Sunday. After three days in the tomb, Christ returned to dry our tears and remove our fears. Jesus wants no soul left in mourning over death. He laid down his life, and he took it up again. He removed the sting of death by becoming salvation for us, so that we can call God our Father.

Good Friday Worship Service

Darkness descended on the world that day as God draped Creation in the darkness of mourning. For the Light of the world was flickering out; the great Prince of the heavenly kingdom was dying. Though guiltless, he was tortured and cursed; though innocent, he died among criminals. Who could ever call this day “good?” Only those who know the truth of the cross: Sing my tongue the glorious battle; sing the ending of the fray. Now above the cross, the trophy, sound the loud triumphant lay. Tell how Christ, the world’s Redeemer, as a victim won the day. – Venantius Fortunatus (†609 AD)

Maundy Thursday Worship Service

Christ shows us the full extent of God’s love for us. The Church calls this day Maundy because of Jesus’ new command in the Gospel that his followers love one another, to focus on Christ’s command for humility and love. Christ shows the full extent of his love in both service and sacrifice. He loves us more than life and feeds us his flesh and blood to prove it. Reconciled to God through the flesh and blood of Christ, we follow his command to love each other.

Passion Sunday / Palm Sunday Worship Service

Hail the King who humbly comes to save us! For 1700 years the Church has celebrated with Hosannas and palm branches this festival that opens Holy Week. The time for Christ’s glory had come. He would not, however, gain glory in the manner of other kings. Rather, he would humble himself in great acts of love for us, and then the Father would exalt him to the highest place, because he had fulfilled God’s mission to save mankind.

Christmas Day Festival Service

Christmas is a day to celebrate the fact that what once was hidden is now revealed. That isn’t the case just because presents that were once wrappedhave been opened. It’s because the baby born in Bethlehem is God’s Son revealed for all. Come see just what our God is like as we celebrate his love and his salvation.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

There are so many things that bring fear to our hearts—accidents, sickness, loss of job or income, those things that go bump in the night, death… and the list could go on and on. The shepherds knew that same fear. But the angels came with news that drove fear from their hearts. Hear again the good news that drives fear from your heart: Do not be afraid! A Savior has been born to you!

Mysterious Marriage Retreat

Get away together… to unravel the mystery of marriage. Your marriage.

Have you heard someone say, “Marriage shouldn’t be this hard.” Who says so? An aspiring pro baseball player would never say, “Hitting a fastball shouldn’t be so hard!” An aspiring novelist wouldn’t say, “It shouldn’t be so hard to create compelling characters.” So why is marriage so hard?

Here’s God’s own answer, “Marriage is a profound mystery.”

Marriage is a profound mystery.

In Ephesians 5:32 Paul calls marriage literally, a “mega-mystery.” The word mystery is sometimes translated secret. In some ways, that’s a better word. Mystery seems to imply it can’t be solved. Secret means there is an answer and it’s entirely possible to know it.

It’s entirely possible for you to know, feel and act on the secret to a great marriage.

What’s the mystery/secret?

God had in mind the gospel of Jesus when he designed marriage. Then he used marriage to teach the gospel. The gospel is this: you are more sinful and flawed than you ever knew and yet in Jesus you are more loved by God than you ever dreamed. The truth about marriage is this: you and your spouse are not compatible. But you are forgiven and received by Jesus to forgive and keep each other. The gospel gives you the power to be married. Marriage gives you a way to show the gospel. In fact, your marriage will only work to the degree that you appreciate and follow the pattern of God’s selfless love in Christ. Do for your spouse as God has done for you; the rest will follow. But how?

Unravel the mystery together

Get away together. Relax together. Laugh together. Unravel the mystery of marriage together. Learn from the five “Mysterious Marriage” sessions. Practice actions that will make your marriage more rewarding and more wondrous. Commit together. Pray together.

Your marriage will only work to the degree that you appreciate and follow the pattern of God’s selfless love in Christ.

Easter Morning Worship Service

You are invited to join us for our Easter Worship Service - 10:15 am

Does it every seem as though you're doing a lot of running around without really getting anywhere? It's easy for life to seem like a frantic chase after something you never quite catch.

If so, there's good news. The first Easter morning was full of running as well. Mary and the disciples were running all over the place to find their teacher with no success. But by the end of the day, they had not only seen him alive, but had found more than they were ever looking for: peace, joy, and the hope of eternal life. Join us this Easter as we remember that the race to a full life begins at the empty tomb.

Easter Morning Song Service

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! The Church gathers and remembers the early hours of the first Easter Sunday. After three days in the tomb, Christ returned to dry our tears and remove our fears. Jesus wants no soul left in mourning overdeath. He laid down his life, and he took it up again. He removed the sting of death by becoming salvation for us, so that we can call God our Father!

Join us for a special Song service where we will hear the good news of Christ's resurrection and sing his Easter praises!

Good Friday Worship Service

Service of the Cross - 7pm

Good Friday is not a “funeral” for Jesus, but an austere celebration of the Lamb and his sacrifice. The bare altar, symbolic of Christ, is the focus along with a large, rough-finished wood cross that is placed before it. The Service of the Cross consists of two parts: (I) the Word and (II) the Meditation on the Cross. The service is highly meditative in nature and is celebrated simply and not hurried. The Service of the Cross is intended as the primary Good Friday service and historically has been observed sometime during the “hours of the cross,” between noon and three o’clock.

Maundy Thursday Worship Service

Maundy Thursday Worship - 7pm

The Day: Just as Ash Wednesday begins Lent, so Maundy Thursday marks the end of Lent proper and the beginning of the Three Holy Days of Christendom (called the Triduum). The theme of the celebration is the Lord’s new command (mandatus, Latin, became Maundy in Old English) to his disciples of all time to love each other as he has loved. The institution of the Lord’s Supper sets forth the depth of Jesus’ love and gives power to the church to live out his command. As with Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday occupies a unique place in the church calendar. It is a festival in which reconciliation is solemnly expressed and in which the congregation makes its transition from preparation for the celebration of the mystery of the Passion and Resurrection, to the celebration itself.

The Stripping of the Altar: The post-communion action of stripping the altar has its roots in the early Church. The congregation sings a hymn as the communion vessels, cross, and candles are carried from the chancel. Once the communion vessels and appointments are removed, the altar, which represents the body of Christ, becomes the focus. The altar is solemnly stripped of its vestments in token of the abandonment of Jesus in Gethsemane. The altar is left completely bare for Good Friday.

The Dismissal: The service concludes after the stripping of the altar. There is no closing blessing or closing hymn. Rather, the services of the Three Days flow into one another, as the congregation leaves to reassemble tomorrow for Part II: Good Friday, for our Service of the Cross.
